Excited Patient with Plastic Surgery ResultsPlastic surgery can transform the way you look, along with the way you feel about yourself. Virtually all patients who receive treatment from Schoemann Plastic Surgery are pleased with their results, yet many are curious about how long their results will last. Is plastic surgery permanent? And if not, what kind of longevity should you expect from your surgical outcomes?

How Long Do Plastic Surgery Results Last?

Every plastic surgery procedure is designed to offer dramatic and long-lasting results. This is one of the primary benefits of choosing plastic surgery over non-surgical treatment: you receive a much more substantive and lasting transformation.

This advantage does not mean the results last forever, nor that the results have the same longevity from one treatment to the next. While each procedure has a different expectation for how long results last, there is a general understanding that no plastic surgery procedure halts the flow of time. The natural aging process will continue, and the results of previous plastic surgeries will change due to this process.

For certain procedures, the changes caused by the aging process do not completely undo the results of the surgery. One example is the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which permanently redistributes the placement of fat cells in the body. Even if the aging process results in weight gain across the body, your bodily proportions will still be altered by the BBL so that your buttocks (where your own fat cells were added) remain proportionally larger than any bodily areas where fat cells were removed (such as the thighs or the abdomen).

Maintaining the Results of Plastic Surgery

Even though plastic surgery results are not meant to last forever, you can take some simple steps to prolong the efficacy of your procedure, enjoying your new appearance for a good long while. One of the most critical steps is to adhere to your surgeon’s aftercare or recovery instructions.

Additionally, a number of non-surgical interventions, such as BOTOX® and fillers, can be performed on a “maintenance” basis, allowing you to sustain the effects of your surgical procedure.
