Dr. Mark Schoemann, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

As a child, Dr. Schoemann excelled in art with an exceptional, natural talent for drawing and sculpting. This artistic ability, combined with an innate desire to help others, led Dr. Schoemann to pursue a career in plastic surgery, which he felt allowed him to balance his passion for art and science.

Prior to specializing in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Schoemann was a pediatric plastic surgeon. He found it incredibly rewarding to change a young child’s life and now offers the same impactful, life-changing results to adults at his private practice, Schoemann Plastic Surgery Center.

What began as a childhood dream of helping others find happiness sparked a lifelong mission to remain focused on that task. His actions throughout his education and career are evidence of Dr. Schoemann’s dedication to that mission.

Dr. Schoemann previously served as an assistant professor of plastic surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, VA. Today, while maintaining a superior plastic surgery center, Dr. Schoemann holds membership with the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is currently board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Skills and Specialties

Dr. Schoemann went to great lengths over several years to obtain what is without a doubt a highly exceptional education. This training made it possible for him to excel in plastic and reconstructive surgeries of the body, face, and hands while prioritizing the needs, safety, and comfort of his patients. In addition, Dr. Schoemann is skilled in male-to-female, female-to-male, and facial feminization procedures. Because he began his private practice career performing craniofacial surgery on small children, Dr. Schoemann can master the most meticulous of cosmetic surgeries to produce stunning, life-changing results for Encinitas area patients. Though he performs an array of vastly unique procedures under a holistic approach, his top specialties are currently breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, facelifts, blepharoplasty, and tummy tucks.

Humanitarianism

After spending numerous years perfecting his craft, Dr. Schoemann felt called to focus on helping others — the goal that had originally inspired his enrollment into medical school. In July of 2012, Dr. Schoemann flew to Guwahati, India to become the medical director of Operation Smile’s Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre. As the program’s director, Dr. Schoemann oversaw the safe execution of 2,500 cleft palette surgeries, performing approximately 350 of them himself. The highlight of Dr. Schoemann’s year in India was seeing patient after patient light up with joy following surgery. The time abroad helped Dr. Schoemann understand the inspiring ability of individuals to find joy in tough situations. This ignited a fire within Dr. Schoemann to devote his life and time to those in need.
