The Breast Augmentation Procedure Process
The breast augmentation procedure is performed in Dr. Schoemann’s on-site surgical facility using general anesthesia. He will begin by creating the agreed upon incisions, through which he will then create a pocket to place the breast implant. Once the breast implant has been properly placed and positioned, Dr. Schoemann will close the incisions with sutures or surgical adhesives. You will then be taken to a comfortable recovery room where our nurses will monitor you as you wake up from the effects of your anesthesia.
The Consultation
When you meet with Dr. Schoemann for your initial breast augmentation consultation, he will perform a full examination of your breasts, listen as you describe your desired results, and thoroughly explain the various aspects of your procedure including breast implant types, the sizes and shapes you can choose from, and what type of profile will work best for your body type. Dr. Schoemann will take time to ensure you feel well-informed and comfortable about your choices for your breast augmentation procedure.
Preparing for a Breast Augmentation
Before you visit Dr. Schoemann for your breast augmentation procedure, you will need to prepare by arranging for a trusted friend or family member to drive you to your appointment, wait in the waiting room during your procedure, be prepared to drive you home once you have been released, and stay with you for 24 hours.
Other steps you will need to complete when preparing for breast augmentation include, visiting your primary care physician to ensure you are healthy enough for elective surgery, quitting tobacco use for at least 2 weeks before your scheduled surgery date, avoiding aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs that could lead to excessive bleeding, and adjusting your daily medications as directed.
How Long Does a Breast Augmentation Procedure Take?
The breast augmentation procedure is performed in our spacious, cutting-edge, on-site surgical facility, which is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities. Dr. Schoemann utilizes technologically advanced techniques and technologies to perform all plastic surgery procedures, which means he can work as efficiently as if he were in a hospital setting.
Breast augmentation is an out-patient procedure and generally takes between 1-3 hours, depending on the choices you have made for your surgery. After Dr. Schoemann has completed your procedure, you will be transferred to a comfortable recovery room where you will be cared for until your discharge.
Will I Feel Any Pain During a Breast Augmentation?
To perform breast augmentation, Dr. Schoemann will use general anesthesia in order to ensure you are completely unaware of your surgery. Not only will you be completely asleep during surgery, but you will not feel anything either.
After your surgery, you will still be comfortable for some time. As your anesthesia wears off, you will begin taking the prescribed pain medication provided by Dr. Schoemann. Be sure to take this medication as directed, and on a schedule, to ensure you remain comfortable in the days following your breast augmentation.
Post-Surgery – Recovering from a Breast Augmentation
When you have been released to return home after your breast augmentation, your breasts will be in a post-surgical bra in order to provide support and minimize swelling as healing progresses. It is vital that you do not remove this dressing. Instead, Dr. Schoemann will remove it during your first post-surgery appointment. Once it has been removed, you should continue to wear a support garment or sports bra for several weeks, as directed by Dr. Schoemann.
Upon your discharge, you will also be provided a specific list of instructions pertaining to your recovery period. Be sure to follow these directions carefully in order to ensure you remain healthy and avoid postoperative complications.
