It’s one of the most popular “on-trend” cosmetic treatments in recent years – the butt lift. And most recently, the Brazilian butt lift version. People have been seeking out treatments in or order to obtain a rounder, fuller backside. While a Brazilian butt lift is often considered the go-to procedure for enhancing the derriere, it’s not right for all patients. Not only does the treatment require a person to have enough fat to transplant from one area of the body to the buttocks, and restrict your sitting positions for weeks, but it is no longer recommended as a safe procedure.

But I like big butts, you say? Well, enter Sculptra, a different type of butt lift. This treatment provides you the backside enhancement you desire, with no extra fat required, and above all, it’s safe.

So what is Sculptra?

Sculptra Aesthetic is a natural collagen stimulator. An FDA-approved injectable filler that helps gradually build collagen for results that can last two-three years, and in some cases up to five. It is made with a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and encourages the production of collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist. In other words, it gives the butt more volume and appear more lifted, smooths out cellulite dimples, and improve the skin’s overall texture.

What happens during the procedure?

Used with a local anesthetic, and injected under low pressure, the procedure includes injecting vials of the PLLA suspended in water into the deep dermis of the buttocks. Post injections, the water is absorbed over several days leaving the natural building collagen particles within the skin. Over time, the body’s natural response builds its own collagen to create a lifted, full appearance.

How long is the recovery time?

Unlike the Brazillian Butt Life, where you can’t sit on your bottom for six to eight weeks, there are no restrictions afterward and recovery is much shorter. At most some patients may experience soreness, minimal bleeding, minor bruising, and swelling, which usually resolves within a few days. Massage at the injection site is important post-treatment, as it helps to evenly distribute the solution. Many people return to work and their regular activities the next day and there’s no need to worry about your sitting or sleeping position.

How many vials does it take?

The number of vials of Sculptra a person needs depends on the desired result and roundness of their buttocks to start. An average number is around 10, however, some people need just a handful of vials, others might need up to 20.

How long does the procedure take?

Typically, a Sculptra butt lift takes about 30-45 minutes to perform, though it can take more or less time depending on how many vials are injected.

How long does it take to see results?

While the solution gradually begins working upon injection, noticeable results might not be visible right away as Sculptra takes a few weeks to produce collagen and to add volume to the area. Many people have at least two treatment sessions to get the type of results they want.

How is the Brazilian Butt Lift different?

The Brazilian butt lift is a two-part procedure that involves liposuction and injection. First, liposuction is performed to remove donor fat from an area of the body, usually the thighs, abdomen or hips. Once the fat is removed, it is purified and prepared for injection. The entire process takes anywhere from one to four hours, depending on the volume of fat removed and how much augmentation the patient desires.

As always please consult with a licensed surgeon and ask lots of questions to determine if this procedure is right for you.
