The Facelift Procedure Process
When you choose Dr. Schoemann for your facelift procedure, you are choosing a trusted, well-respected surgeon who consistently uses his advanced skill and artistry to provide his patients with amazing, life-changing results. Because he knows you are unique, he will never try to push a generic approach at you. Instead, he will customize your facelift procedure to ensure your desired results are achieved.
The Consultation
During your initial facelift consultation, Dr. Schoemann will perform a full examination of your face, listen as you describe your concerns, talk to you about your surgical options, and answer any questions you have about the procedure. He will make sure you are well-informed so you can make a confident decision regarding surgery.
What Should I Do to Prepare for My Facelift?
To prepare for your facelift with Dr. Schoemann, you should check some things off of your pre-op list, including:
- Have a ride to and from your appointment.
- Be sure you understand your financial responsibility and discuss financing options with our team if needed.
- Do not use tobacco products for at least 2 weeks prior to your facelift.
- If directed by Dr. Schoemann, make changes to any prescription or over-the-counter medications.
- Do not take blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs before your surgery.
- As for help around your home ahead of time, as you will be slightly restricted and unable to do certain household tasks for about one week.
- Have the prescription medications prescribed by Dr. Schoemann filled before your facelift.
How Long Does a Facelift Procedure Take?
Every facelift procedure is performed in our on-site, AAAASF-accredited surgical facility. This high-tech facility allows Dr. Schoemann the ability to conduct surgery efficiently and effectively, with no need to visit a hospital. Depending on the surgical technique used for your facelift, the procedure could take between 2-4 hours to complete. When you meet with Dr. Schoemann for your initial consultation, he will provide you with a more precise timeframe for your specific procedure.
Will Getting a Facelift Hurt During the Procedure?
Your comfort and safety are both top priorities for Dr. Schoemann and his team, which is why most facelift procedures are conducted under general anesthesia. This type of anesthesia ensures the patient is completely unaware of their procedure and does not feel anything during surgery. After your facelift is completed and you have been moved into a recovery room, our nurse will begin to wake you up from the effects of your anesthesia. You may begin to feel mild discomfort at this time; however, Dr. Schoemann will prescribe pain medication to control your level of pain. Be sure to take it as directed and on a schedule to stay comfortable.
Facelift Recovery and Expectations
You should expect your initial facelift recovery to take between 10 and 14 days. During this time, you should take time off from work and other normal daily activities to allow your face time to heal and any swelling and bruising to subside. Afterward, you may resume normal daily activities, as directed by Dr. Schoemann. It is important to remember that while you may not see bruising any longer, your final results may not be seen for several months.
Will I Need to Get Another Facelift in the Future?
As you consider a facelift, it is important to remember that a facelift will not stop the aging process. And while you will be left with beautiful, long-lasting results, your face will eventually show signs of aging again. If some years after your initial facelift, you decide you would like to see improvement, you can opt for a minimally invasive touch-up facelift. To get the most out of your initial facelift results, be sure to protect yourself against excessive sun exposure, maintain a stable weight, and avoid tobacco use. All of these things can lead to premature aging of the face.
